Stone Harbor has its own bird sanctuary and the only heron rookery located within a city. Both herons and egrets nest here and bird watchers come in late summer and early fall to watch these and other species that stop off during their migrations. The nearby Wetlands Institute (609-368-1211) features exhibits on local marine life in their natural habitat, dune walks and kayaking.
